Hello Fellow Banjo-phonists,
Y'all are working hard and having fun playing the banjo, and it's got me all warm, fuzzy, and inspired. So here it is - my first newsletter! This will be an occasional email with helpful resources, listening, general lesson info/updates, and where to catch me playing around the area.
Lessonface: Sometimes, life brings chaos, travel, and general scheduling craziness, but that doesn't have to get in the way of your banjo learnin'! I wanted to make sure ya'll knew that I also teach lessons online. All you need is your banjo and your phone and we can connect no matter where you are in the universe!
Jam class location: At some point in the near future (February/March?), I'll be setting up my first "Wernick Method" Jam Class - a group class that focuses on playing with other people. There will be lots of actual jamming along with instruction on jam skills. This is a great complement to individual lessons because it gives you to put those individual banjo skills and rip-roaring solos into context.
I tell you this now so you can get excited about signing up when I open this for registration, but also because I'm in need of a location. If you have any ideas for a good (free) location that can comfortably accommodate ~15 students, please let me know. If you have the space in your home and are willing to host the class, you can take the class for free!
Playlist of the Day: Check out this YouTube Bluegrass Jamming Favorites Playlist. If your goal is to be able to play bluegrass with others, this is required listening (over and over and over). In addition to these being the core of the bluegrass repertoire, these have the added benefit of all being 3-chord songs, and mostly in the key of G.
Bonus playlist: Given the time of year, I'd be remiss if I didn't include my very own hand-picked Holiday Banjo Playlist on Spotify.
You're getting this newsletter because we've had banjo dealings in the past. If you would prefer not to receive these occasional bursts of banjoistic awe and inspiration, unsubscribe guilt-free.
